Supreme Court upholds the 2nd amendment
(Meant to post this the other day, but got sidetracked)
Hola from CT…
Warming up here after some very nice weather this week, but still very nice. Trying to rain this morning, but so far it’s dry here. Spent most of my time in the Trumbull area, but went out to Groton yesterday. Everyone is gone today, so I’ve got the house to myself! I came in to take lunch out onto the porch, wrap up & email in some billing, and eat while enjoying the weather. So I spin up Drudge on the laptop and whammo, the big news is the 2nd amendment stands and any mystery/uncertainty about the “miltia vs individual” portion of it has been taken care of.
Personally I support the ruling which can be found here (PDF format). I think the 2nd amendment and our Founding Father’s intent are both pretty clear. I’m very much of the opinion that we don’t need any more laws regulating gun ownership/usage, we just need to enforce the laws that are on the books.
You can also get considerable entertainment in watching/listening to the anti-gun spinmiesters try to spin this and spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt (we call it FUD in the IT world). Just hear some comments from Chicago’s Mayor Daley that make it clear he hasn’t read even a summary of the ruling or he’s just clearly an idiot. Considering Daley’s record, the term “consider the source” is very applicable here. Be curious to see what he has to say when, over the next few years, violent crime in DC goes down. FYI, as in most similar cases, violent crime increased since the gun ban was put in place. Of course you will hear little, if any, mention of such facts when our agenda/politics driven (versus journalism) main stream media reports on it.
My problem with a lot of these gun control laws is that only law abiding folks will obey them. The criminals don’t care about yet another law. In fact many criminals will undoubtedly take comfort in the fact that it’s been much more likely, in DC, that their victims will not pull a gun on them in defense. The streets will not turn into the Wild Wild West. It’s not a sad day Mr. Daley, it’s a day in which America demonstrates what makes it so great.
It’s also a bit disturbing that our Supreme Court had to get involved in this to begin with, but it’s still a historic day. It’s also a huge win for those of us that believe in the 2nd amendment and that the Bill of Rights exists to limit the powers of the government, not limit what it’s citizens can do. It’s also disturbing that there were 4 of the judges that were against something that should of been unanimous.
Oh well, such is the nature of Washington politics anymore.
