MySpace down this Sunday morning.
Since everyone seems to be going nuts over this, I could not resist.
UPDATE: around 9:45 AM eastern time, looks like things are coming back, but still a mess.
First off, yeah MySpace is down this morning. It’s not your computer. It’s not your office network. I haven’t seen any official word on what has happened. Some would say this should be logged as a public service to the rest of the internet, chuckle.
Its funny to watch all the “experts” out there trying to tell us what is wrong. Some of the completely clueless explanations I’m seeing on the internet are comical.
It’s real simple folks, their DNS servers are either down or non-responsive for whatever the reason. ns1.myspace.com and ns2.myspace.com are not responding as of 9AM here on the east coast. This is BAD and affecting access globally. From perusing the NetCraft graphs the outage seems to of started around 1200 UTC (8AM Eastern). Appears something failed (or was turned off) rather abruptly. Planned outage or not? I would lean towards unplanned, but just guessing.
Their network appears to be up, but a bit of a mess. You can sort of bring MySpace in via IP versus domain name:
Till MySpace gives an official comment (if you can trust that it’s not spin), who knows the reason behind the outage…period. Quoting the usual spin from “Tom” is not a good idea either.
So for the MySpace addicts, may I suggest getting a life
